Oxalis

hi everyone. hope you all had a lovely christmas and enjoyed the time with your friends and families.

I'm just wondering if anyone can help me in regards of oxalis....how to get rid of it or at least keep in under control? our veggie garden is full of it. is vinegar the best option?

not keen on digging the soil out and replacing it ~ it is full of good stuff after adding lots of bokashi.

thanks for your advice.

happy new year

  • Hi Dunja,

Hope the garden is going well! Vinegar will only burn the tops off the weeds - it won't kill the corms or problem roots. Kathy is right - lifting is a good way to eliminate it, and you must be very careful to not drop any bits from the bulb.

Another method I was told about for a serious problem (like my mother's garden), but not yet tried, is to lay thick layers of newspaper over the wet soil and weight it down, for about 6 months, and the bulbs will rot. From April to Sept was what I was advised, and if you can do without your vege garden for the winter, this might work. The idea is to exclude light, and maintain enough moisture to cause the bulbs to rot.

    cheers,

    Anna
