Starting on the 16th September 2017 we have developed a Community Food Forest in Kaiapoi...taking land that after the earthquakes of 2010-2011 was deemed unsuitable for continued residential occupation... In one year one 1.5 acres of land, on a shoe string budget, over 800 trees and plants have been donated (over 30 types of heritage apples)...500 m3 of mulch, 450 lineal metres of borders have been installed...this year the food forest created by a group of volunteers will provide around 3000kilos of food.. when mature it will produce over 10000 kilos. We have a growing number of schools and groups visit, wanting to learn about how we are growing food sustainably the permaculture way...
