We have a Community Garden at Waimarie: Hamilton East Community House in Hamilton East. We have gardening on Friday mornings from 9.30-12 noon. Some volunteers from the Stewart Centre garden on Thursday afternoons and sometimes other gardens and people doing community service help out as well. We have a lunch on Fridays using produce from the gardens. Excess produce is taken home by the gardeners, preserved or given to the needy in the area. We grow vegetables that are commonly eaten such as corn, tomatoes, beans, lettuce, pupmkins, cucumbers, chillies, etc. We have a small orchard area, raspberries, feijoas and native plant areas. We use permaculture and organic principles. We have a worm farm, compost bins, a water tank, pizza oven and signage with information.
