Tell us about your garden and what you're growing
lol, I am just beginning! Having been inspired by friends with amazing gardens and having children who I want to teach and show how to grow their own food we are really just beginning. So this year we are doing as much as we can from seed, from last years seeds and from friends seeds :) We currently have successfully raised seedlings for tomatoes and lettuce of various varieties, rocket, zucchini, runner beans, snow peas, snap peas, broccoli, silverbeet. I have never had success with corn, but a friend just told me to plant seeds directly into the ground in small groups of three but tightly together, so we will see what happens this year! We have several fruit trees including plum (3 varieties) peach, nectarine. I would love to plant in some hazelnut bushes. We always try to have lots of herbs, bay, parsley, fennel, coriander, basil, marjoram, thyme, rosemary, lemongrass and hopefully some others this year. It is a bit of trial and error for us, but we are learning, and have learnt that we really need to plan our garden. We have a great space, 2000m2 so for a home garden it is perfect. We also have chooks (8) and love getting fresh eggs! The kids love cape gooseberries so we might give them a go! Over winter we managed to grow broccolini, kale, cavolo nero, beetroot, carrots, celery, broad beans, silverbeet and spinach so we will continue with those too. I have never done well with cabbage or cauliflower!! We love being semi-rural, having been city kids! It is wonderful to watch the children harvest their own food, even picking things out of the garden for their lunch boxes! Love that I have found this site, will be a great place to learn from!
