  • Hi Hana- Happy NY. What are you eating out of your garden? I've just dug my maori potatoes- it was only a small patch and got about 8 kg- they are different texture to normal spuds and very yummy. We are eating strawberries, salad stuff (lettuce, celery, parsley, borage, nasturtium, sp onions), beans, silverbeet, kale and will soon have zucs and cucs. I'm only getting 1-2 eggs a day because 3 of my 5 chooks are clucky. I've got 10 baby chickens (6 houdans and 4 lavender araucanas) I've been off work on holiday since Xmas and go back on Tuesday- I will miss not having the time for the garden) Cheers Lyn
  • gardens never go down-hill- they just become more natural. I love Jackie French's books- in particular the Wilderness Garden- when we lived there the garden was always wild and I loved it. But there was always food amongst it all to eat- flowers and herbs to enjoy. And it was spray free. So to me that is beauty! Re the chooks- I did used to let them free range to clean up the garden from time to time. I did lose a few chickies to cats and a hedgehog. The smaller chicks will squeeze thru holes in fences and of course then they are very vulnerable. If your hen is sitting and not getting off the nest for too long then you should get some babies- good luck- lyn
