  • how is everyone's garlic crop coming along? It's been a relatively mild and wet winter so far. Have lifted the mulch off my garlic, noticed a couple of patches of fungal growth on the soil under the pea straw. Last season some of my crop was affected by rust and had to harvest a couple of week's earlier than normal to avoid it spreading. I'll put the mulch back on once the soil dries up a bit to keep the weeds at bay.
Todd, nearly all of the garlic that you sent me has emerged, two or three varieties still not showing yet, they might be the silverskins which don't usually come up until late August.
  • I have now found several keen growers for the small amount I have available, Please contact me if really keen though as I am bound to have some extra left over after planting which will otherwise be eaten.

  • Contact me if you grow or wish to grow heirloom/heritage garlic. We are keen on trading or gifting but will purchase interesting heritage varieties. We have limited space and grow small amounts of each, so only a very small amount will be available. Preference given to those who will preserve and pass on the seed.

Excellent Australian garlic site

http://www.australiangarlic.net.au/garlic/turban/ontos-purple Great photos and descriptions of the varieties grown in Australia. Am finding it really helpful in trying to narrow down the varietal groups of the garlic that I've got growing.

Garlic wanted

I am looking for garlic cloves to plant. I know it's way to early to plant, but since they should be fresh out of the ground, I figured someone might have some spares. I am not picky as to what kind. I had to move mid season last year and lost all my garlic.

Any other garlic fanatics out there?

I've been collecting different types of garlic for around 8 years now and have a number of other garlic varieties, many of which have been grown in New Zealand for at least 20 years.   We now have well over 15 varieties and counting including most of Koanga's seed line/ Henry Harrington's collection, and a range of named and un-named varieties aquired from farmer's markets, organic food shops, swap meets, garlic growers, and trade me.   It seems there are a lot of very interesting varieties…
