Hi there
I'm looking for a quantity of sunflower and/or swan plant seeds to use as part of an art project I am doing for the Hamilton Fringe Festival Sept 20 - Oct 5 2011. I plan to place packets of seeds around Garden Placein central Hamilton during this period for the public to take home and grow. The seed packets are illustrated and have a specially designed label detailing a little history of the plant and how to grow it. I did a similar projects a few years ago (see photo). They will be taped to lamp posts and street furniture with the message "take me and plant me - I'm free".

Hey NZ biograins sell bulk pumpkin kernels they might be able to sell them unhulled you could always ask and findout? also I don't see why the bird seed wouldn't grow.
I absolutely adore this idea! Wish I could help! I shall grow some this year though and perhaps if you do it again next year I can help you out. I so love the thought of sharing the joy of sunflowers with strangers! Its very romantic. :-)

thanks Moggy! Unless I can source seeds, it's not going to happen, though I understand you can buy large bags of sunflower seeds from pet stores - any one know if these are viable? I wouldn't want to buy a whole lot of seed to give away and then it doesn't come up!
