Folks,

Apologies in advance. I just picked up a copy of Christine Dann's new book: Food@home (Canterbury University Press, 2012. ISBN: 9781927145036). It tells the story of small scale gardening in NZ and the revivial of home and community gardening, the local food movement, NZ organic / permaculture and urban agriculture initiatives, farmers markets ..the list goes on.This is the most awesome book ive read in the last few years - Im only into chapter 2 but its made me so excited that i have to tell someone! Its full of familiar names and faces - for example, Lynda Hallinan (NZ Gardener editor), the folks from EarthTalk (Awhitu), Stella from Running Brook Seeds, the Auckland Botanic Gardens and Koanga Gardens. Im salivating over the recipes and the photos of other peoples gardens. This is neat, am so glad someone bought me a copy! Read it - especially the section on recovering our lost kitchen (and gardening) skills (many NZers have lost the gardening and cooking skills that common knowledge 30 years ago). Oh dear - Im rambling...read this book, just the pictures alone make me want to jump into my garden...but i will wait until ive finished reading the whole thing!!

xxx and cheers,

steph - I am sooo excited - this is cool!
