Tell us about your garden and what you're growing

Just starting all over again. Have moved from Christchurch to the Bay of Plenty so have lots to learn about a new growing climate but very excited by the number of fruit trees on our new property. I am currently preparing the garden beds and looking forward to seeing what can be accomplished on a 2.4 hectare property.

  • I am looking for NZ white rabbits to raise for meat. Are you still raising rabbits? and interested in selling any?

  • Thanx for clearing that up for me love :) Think ill stick to chickens and lambs.

p.s Your swarm photo is awesome.

  • Hi Katherine, this may be a silly question...do your rabbits stay in the cages in the coup or do you open the cages and let them into the coup area?

  • hi Katherine, Great photo of the swarm collection. I m feeling pretty excited about the bees. I've got a friend that is a commercial bee keeper who i can go along with now and then, but I'm keen to meet as many people keeping bees as possible. Are you going to create an artificial swarm from your langstroth and have more hives or convert? I don't know any one with a top bar hive yet. You are welcome to come by and see the one I made. I had already caught the swarm when I was building the hive, So was a bit rushed, I think I'll build another with an observation window. All the best Niki

  • hello Katherine, welcome to ooooby. It sounds as though your garden is keeping you very busy, looking forward to seeing photos. I grew tree onions for the first time this year and they're great, haven't given them a chance to bulb up yet, been using them as spring onions and boy, do they have a kick :) Am into my second season of growing garlic and just about to finish my last two bulbs - have planted many more cloves this year as well as lots of hardneck bulbils so should be able to keep more of my harvest for the table.
