Tell us about your garden and what you're growing

I work in 2 gardens - my own tiny one in Grey Lynn where I've squeezed in a subtrop food forest space - and deciduous fruit tree space - some espaliers, etc. We are on 1/16 of an acre. We are about to move to Swanson, build an ecohouse and get more productive on 1.2acres. I worked in Annabel Langbein's garden for 11 years which has a large kitchen garden, espaliers and subtrop fruiting and ornamental border. This is a half acre in Newmarket. I have also designed edible gardens since graduating with a diploma in Sustainable Land Management, Unitec in 2000. My year long dissertation was entitled 'The Quarter Acre Revisited', and focused on urban food production. I manage the Sustainable Living Centre in New Lynn which has organic gardens and community allotments. We have a food forest, bee friendly plant zone, productive swale, maori medicinal planting, demo worm and compost bins and have planted fruit trees on the Olympic Park Border. The organic demo gardens were co-designed with myself and Brendan Hoare. I have been writing the Herald on Sunday garden column now since 2011.
