  • Hi Fi,

I have to admit I haven't spent much time on Oooooby recently but hope to follow it more again.

    cheers Kathrina

  • Hello, again!  No, I haven't heard of them - tree collards - either, but nice to catch up with you.  Your garden is going ahead in leaps and bounds.  Well done!
  • Hello Fi, I can't offer tree collard cuttings, I'd never heard of the plant till I saw your post this morning, and so I've looked them up and now know something about them. I'm writing to ask if you know whether they are in NZ. If they are, my interest would be in their use as a summer vegetable ie do they have any resistance to white butterflies. Currently I don't grow any brassicas in summer since they only become food for those green caterpillars.

    Cheers

    Janet in Northland

  • Oh Thanks Fi I will contact you next week just interested in a few plants to see how they go around the fuit trees we will be back on the island by Wednesday Thanks Kiri
  • Hurricane (wick lanterns) are pretty useless, what did you want it for? I can recommend a pressure lantern over hurricane.

  • Hi Fi.

Would love to come and see the progress.  Katherine has just given birth to our new little boy, so we're a bit homebound at the moment, but I will make it out there soon.

  • I've just googled and found that Bristol Seeds had some Early Girl seed in July. Don't appear to be on their shop list now but you could ask them

  • Hi Fi and Steve. I'm not sure where you can get Early Girl tomato seed but my plant came from The Warehouse. Here in napier they are selling them off very cheap this week as they are getting potbound. If you can get one like that and plant it out or put it in a bigger pot it should be fine. As it is a hybrid type any seed saved would not be true to type so it can only be purchased or bought as a plant. I just recently found out that Monsanto now own the patent for this seed, which is a trifle disturbing to me.

  • Wow connections everywhere.... our family grew up on waiheke, last seen in the houseboats on the way to rocky bay lol. if you are ever up this way please drop in and see YOUR labour of loves. we are not really following any dogma just working hard and having a go and loving it...still organic and still trying to be self sustainable... did buy some hay the other day tho.
