Having recently been to a meeting in the Titirangi Presbyterian Church where three Labour MP's and others lamented the new Tree legislation, I know we have to work together to make caring for living plants and humans "Normal".
The Minister for Conservation lives in Titirangi but seems to favour arbitrary "property owners decision" pruning and felling.
A long drawn out campaign is needed.
If you want to help you may wish talk with me.

Hi Daniel,
Yes I have a chainsaw and collect enough firewood from macrocarpa that falls off the Laingholm cliffs for many houses fires.
I also cut acmena right down to end up as a washing line holder and the trunks to be a stair rail. I also cut Tobacco plant and ginger without guilt. Of course discussion with neighbours is also important.
I have half my property in mature (100 year) natives and wish to keep it that way. I guess I live in a forest. Titirangi is in world terms a forest. If we don't look after it then it will become another Remuera and I have to move yet again.
I will encourage all my students to treat trees as partners in our world not just financial assets.
Some have never planted anything or really ever looked at a tree.
Hey bro where did i leave my chain saw? only joking trees have there place in every landscape, we have had to take a row of acnema trees down that were twice as high as our house and blocked out the sun were two high and were on the edge of a metre high old retaining wall that they were pushing over, we are going to reform them as a hedge a third of the lenght was felled by proffesionals before we moved in, it has started to regrow nicely. We have a beautiful mature silver birch which is a joy to look at and is a specimen tree, on the other side of us our inconsiderate neighbor has planted a karaka on the boundry line does he realise how high and big they grow it is about three metres high at the moment and will grow to enormous proportions it will break up our drive and undermine the foundations of the house and is a ridiculous place for a tree of that size it makes your want to go out and poison the bloody thing he is too pig headed and selfish to think about anyone else,. My point is leave the trees in the forest where they belong there is enough land out there to plant trees on without having monsters in our backyard!!!!
