Ladders are ancient tools and technology. A ladder is depicted in a Mesolithic rock painting in a cave in Valencia, Spain that is at least 10,000 years old. The rock painting shows 2 naked humans carrying baskets or bags on a long ladder that appears to be made out of grasses, to reach a wild honeybee nest to harvest the honey. Modern ladders are believed to have been conceived by Hebrews and Egyptians.
Those were 2 brave souls that harvested that honey and I don't believe that walking under a ladder will bring you bad luck. I walk under them all day long in my work and have done so for the past 11 years. If that was true I'd be gone by now.
Ladders are the "Handy Dandy" in the vertical gardening world. If you don't have the space to spread out then go up!
