  • Hi that would be great if you could send a cutting. What is your address so I can send you a courier bag to send it to me - this will be an overnight service so would keep it OK

Oh yes and they do grow into large trees but respond well to pruning, even drastic pruning, in winter to keep them at a suitable height for harvesting, they fruit on new tips. They lose their leaves in winter

I have a fig tree in my backyard which has lots of suckers, ie shoots with roots that are growing beneath it, I can send you some if you like, I have grown a few others this way in the past. the figs are large and go quite dark when ripe, red inside, don't know the variety but they are yummy if you can beat the birds to them :)
  • i'm growing from cuttings too, but one of my books does say that they grow easily enough from seeds - even seeds from commercially dried figs!

  • I'm not sure about seeds but they grow very easily from cuttings. That way you can also make sure that the fruit you will get are a good variety - taste test first! Some are definitely more tasty than others, and as they can grow into very big trees, it is a good idea to be sure when you start rather than waiting for one to grow from seed and then finding out the fruit is tasteless. Apparently early spring is the best time to take cuttings.
