Kiwiberries

I planted some last year- male and female together as the garden centre advised. Growing well- BUT... obviously I need to prune back and I have no clue HOW. What do i cut? How much? Any ideas?

  • sorry -try incredible edibles website - they call them cocktail kiwi

  • Sorry I can't help with the pruning but the garden centre should be able to help. I have only a female as the male dyed and can't get another male. Reason being the garden centres seem not to be stocking them because of the damn PSA issue. No fruit for me

    • Mercurious I think you could probably grow a male from a cutting, we stuck a kiwifruit pruning in the ground during winter and its sprouting away no problems now. These are something on my to grow one day list, sound yummy but would need a climbing frame of sorts.

    • I'm sure I could grow one from a cutting but don't know anyone with one close by unfortunately so a bit stuck in that regard.

    • Dang... well, mine are growing profusely, and I need to trim them back, but not sure how to.... maybe somebody will know.

    • Teeli I wonder would you consider growing a cutting for me? I'm happy to pay you for a wee plant and super fast courier to get it here. My girl needs a man. Not to worry if you can't though.

    • Well, I WOULD except that...um... I dunno how to! And, I dunno which one is the male now, the tags have gone.... I do know that you can buy the plants (combined) from Incredible Edibles, in Aongatete.I am really sorry I can't help....  :(

    • here is a link to a pdf about the care of these plants. sounds simple enough.

    • Thank you, Kali! If it stops raining today I shall go out and have a try!
