Miniature Black Popping Corn

We grew some of this for the first time this summer. I read somewhere that you needed to wait until the husks were absolutely dried before harvesting, which we did. Then we tried to pop it, well no go! Not a single bit popped!! Has anyone got any ideas why?

    Put the seeds in the hot water cupboard or similar for a week or more and they're fine. Love the cooking instructions, Kali! Thanks.

    also my son learnt a great method for popcorn popping, you heat the oil with just a couple of kernals in and wait until they pop, then add a layer of kernals to cover the bottom of the pan off the heat, wait 30 secs for it to warm through then put back on the heat, they all pop together within a short time and don't burn.

    I read someone with the same problem on the trademe message board recently, they said they put the kernals into the dehydrator for a while to make sure they were thoroughly dried and then had success.
