  • I thought verbena, but the person who said Salvia is correct. I just couldn't think of that at the time.
  • Looks like a salvia.
    • I see chia IS

      a salvia-makes sense then : )

    • I didn't get any viable seed from  mine, I think it got cold too early for it to fully develop
    • I got seed from my wild  chia plants at the moment in June/ July.

But then my garden is confused about the weather and I have heaps of strawberry flowers and I just harvested  a couple of cucumbers.

  • The flower is more of a spear shape like a lavender flower. Chia has more of a round shape flower.

It is not a linseed  nor flax flower.

    • yes thanks.. the seeds developed on mine and They are definitely chia.  Some other sprouted seeds I threw out for the chooks.  Sorry bout that.

  • no its not flax (linseed) here is a link to a pic of chia, looks very similar to me 100926-1.jpg
    • Yes...those flowers look the same....but not the conventional chia flower shape.
    • I see on the Net that there are two flower shapes for Chia.

      Thank-you for solving the query.

It must have sown from the chia bread I threw to the birds.
