Working Bee May 16

Hi all,

I've got some ideas of what we could do this Sunday May 16.

I spent a gift voucher at the garden shop. Kay talked me into getting some more NZ cranberry plants and a range of herbs, we also have some spare herbs. Make a sort of hedgy garden.

Am keen to plant all these in the orchard site. We can block off that side of the carpark where two native trees were crushed. We can:

Use the donated shade cloth and some stakes to make a wind (and car) break here.

Dig up the poor soil and add in lots of compost and mulch from our various sources.

Plant all the plants I have.

The tires Charles left could be useful.

We could use his bricks to make another raised bed up there.

We thought we could experiment with sowing some lupin seeds at the orchard (big bag of seeds in the fridge).

And there's a little bit of work to do on the fruit tree holes.

  • Hey team,

just realised I never mentioned how awesome the orchard is looking after the last working bee. Great work! Sorry I missed it, I will make up for it next time!

    KOTA rocks!
  • Hi gardeners and neighbours

Unfortunately, I'll be working this Sunday... Have fun, and see you soon!
    • Sounds cool to me. I noticed another car parked across the end of the orchard site this morning. Maybe we could use the bathtub or the tyres to block off that edge and protect the new gift-voucher plants from being run over too.
  • Yep its community day, so meeting at aro hall at twelve would be awesome in case there are any new peeps.

Yep I left those trays of plants at the orchard. Feel free to plant any of them - though if you don't recognise them, maybe hold off so we make sure we put them in suitable places.

I reckon it would def be cool to use all those egg shells and coffee grounds this weekend. Can some of the mega mulch go to 205 st site too?

I left heaps of other seeds in the fridge too (I think...). There'll def be some good autumn sow seeds in there me thinks.

    Sorry I can't be there.
  • Just went passed this morning and saw there are a few trays of plants at the orchard too - perhaps part of what Charles left behind? Various natives and succulents. So heaps could be done there.

Am I right that this Sunday is the normal big working bee, as the third Sunday of the month? So I figured meeting at the community hall at noon.

There's some compost, coffee and eggs etc that we need to haul up to the orchard site from secret garden, too.
  • Sounds awesome :)
  • I'm keen, what time are you thinking?
