  • Am starting to get a 'buying-group' style of co-op going here in hamilton. Still getting the finer details worked out but if anyone wants to impart words of wisdom I am listening. Especially about the benefits or pitfalls of registering with the tax dept. and how this may impact being viewed as a co-op (i.e. if people buy in to 'equity' that we don't need to have food safety certs and check which I understand can be a hassle?).

Getting the surplus fruit that is being wasted to people who want fruit.

I love what Oooby is doing with the box thing. Great to see. I would like to emulate it but our emerging CSA is a strictly organic certified gig.However...... There is good fruit wasting on the ground while our food bank is crying out for food. I have been kicking around models for harvesting the citrus,apples, feijoas, plums, persimmon, nuts, figs, grapes, pears guavas and loquats that are in the gardens and neglected orchards around our area.  How about a fruit box scheme?
