Budding failures

Hi everyone

I have just been reviewing the sad results of last summer's budding efforts.  So far I have found three successful ones (yay) and a forest of failed ones...

I was budding onto peach seedlings, mostly plum buds but I tried all sorts of things - peaches, nectarines...  The labels would bring a tear to your eye!

About a 3% success rate so far!  Still digging them up and moving them so I will keep you posted!  Anyone else out there in the same boat?

  • aww that is sad Janine,  I have tried a couple of grafts of plum this year, only two have little leaves showing but not certain yet that they have taken, I used duct tape and bees wax to seal them, not sure that was the best method but was what I had on hand! Megan sent me some grafting tape so will try using that next year.
    • Thanks Kali!  All the best with your plum grafts.  I will be trying some plum grafts this year too - I have all those peach seedlings the budding failed on to use up.  At least they aren't wasted!  I thought budding might be easier because it's what all the commercial nurseries use now, but I guess it's not as easy as I had hoped.
