To Market, to market...

I'm planning to take a table to the Napier Sunday market this weekend and sell some plants. If anyone else has any plants or produce they'd like to sell, you are welcome to join me. I'm thinking of doing this once a month. Add a comment or send me a message if you are interested.

  • I'm thinking of going to the Napier Sunday market again on Dec 13th if anyone is interested.
  • I went to the Market with tomato plants, pepper plants and some basil and other herb plants. I also took some lemons, limes and roses.
It costs $20 for a site and you just set up by 8.30am.
I'm told it was a really quiet day. I only sold a few plants and a bunch of roses, enough to cover the site fee and a few dollars profit.

I'm not sure this is the right venue for an Ooooby stall. I will try there again but my first impression is that there was quite a depressed feel to this market. Lots of people looking at stalls, but not many purchases made.
People did seem to be buying from the vege stalls tho so maybe if we had more produce it would go better.
It is very different to the Hastings Farmers Market which is always humming.
That may be a better venue even tho' it would cost more to have a stall there.

I enjoyed the interest in my heirloom tomato varieties, and talking to people about them. A highlight was an Italian family passing by, who got very excited when they saw my Costoluto Fiorentino tomato plants.
I may have another try in December because other stall holders told me it was not a typical day.
If you'd like to join in you are most welcome so pot up your plants and think about what extra produce you might like to sell.
    I'll keep you posted.
Let me know any thoughts and ideas on an Ooooby stall for Hawkes Bay.
I think we would need to build up the membership more too.
  • Great Hester
I have sent this through to Jo Duff (my colleague) who is doing some lovely seedlings for Cornucopia under her label of Kahikatea Farm. She may get in touch with you - perhaps
Otherwise I hope it goes well for you.
    Cheers
    Marion
