Tell us about your garden and what you're growing

We have over 40 fruiting plants mostly in containers. Some are large containers and the trees are fruiting well. We also have raised vegetable beds made of painted pine boards. I have many varieties of plants all of whom I love. Our garden is a new section so we are starting from scratch establishing a hedge and trees. It is fun. I have a great crop of grapes this year - Albany surprise, heaps of tomatoes and harvested 7 large pumpkins today that grew along where the new hedge is growing. I also grow microgreens like wheatgrass and sunflower seedlings for green smoothies. I love it when plants like coriander and rocket seed themselves. We have two worm farms and two 1100L rain water tanks which we installed last year 2009. I've spent this long dry summer in Tauranga hand-watering our over 190 plants in pots and others in the ground with two watering cans. I certainly kept an eye on them all!

  • hi liked your herbs plant pic! I am herbs collector from Nepal.

  • Hi Julia, still finding my way around the site!  Thanks for your welcome, am really looking forward to meeting other members and will endeavour to come along to the next meeting;)

  • Your Ooooby group sounds great!  We live in a housetruck in the Takaka organic community gardens, woofing and keeping an eye on the place.  There is a wee stall that locals bring their produce to sell from and regular workshops are run through the gardens.  Loving the spring feeling here too!  Some blossoms appearing and daffodils up...mmm and some delicious weeds and flowers springing up everywhere.  Excited about polyculture planting and going to try that this year for the first time.  Your new garden sounds fun :)

  • You look gorgeous in your photo - with your hands full of garden bounty!

  • Hiya! Isn't this oooby thing great!
