Tell us about your garden and what you're growing

I have a vege garden mainly potatoes, cabbage cauli, beans, florence fennel, onions and garlic, but suffer in the what to do with the extras department. especially in summer when I cant give away any more courgettes! Would love some advice on growing leeks and cucumbers. also advice on a fantastic organics course to do in NP area or on line?

  • Hey Julie, re your organic course comment. About 10 years ago I did the Open Polytechnic organic course and it was very well written and pretty cheap to do. There are also night courses run through WITT bu a horticulture education provider - cant remember their name sorry, but the WITT main phone number would be a start if you are still interested.

Courgettes are a great base for chutneys...

  • hi julie, i hav'nt made seaweed compost yet as i have been reclaiming some more of the garden back from the native bush that had swallowed up the lower part of my garden this is were the compost bins are going to be and were i plan to store the seaweed compost bin, and of course grow my veg and fruit tree's too, but have been checking out the best place to get seaweed while out walking the dog and found that the pest collecting place is east end beach the bit right near the kids play ground and the bridge over the te hanui just after high tide there is loads.
