I am a Canadian backpacker travelling in New Zealand, settled in Tauranga to work the kiwi fruit packing season. I would love to make some local contacts that is willing to help out a backpacker budgeted individual with local honey, eggs, meat, kefir grains, etc. Thanks!

have learnt that not everyone is receiving the ooooby gathering messages I've been sending via this website, for some reason... so thought I'd better touch base and see if you are getting them, and if not - if you'd like to be in the loop just give me your email address and will fwd them that way ;)
normally there are backyard gatherings the 2nd sat of each month between 10am-12noon, and a great way to share produce and swap seeds etc :)
this month is sustainable backyards month, so we have extra events - we had a stall at the nashi harvest festival at the arty house in tepuna last wkend which was fun :) and a gathering at the mt community garden yesterday. next weekend on sun 16th we'll have an ooooby share table as part of the stalls at they sydenham botanic reserve in otumoetai, 1-4pm. and sat the 22nd we'll have an ooooby share table at the envirofest family funday/workshop day at the historic village 10-3pm ;)
might try some sunday gatherings from april to see how that suits people and that gathering will probably be at Jane Powel's in Papamoa that month, she's the one who often runs the 'make your own probiotics' and cheesemaking workshops.

hope you are enjoying your travels, we have ooooby gathering on sat 11th may if you would like to come along at all, details to be sent out soon, where you can meet some of the group members, or you can contact anyone individually via their pages on here.
I'd suggest posting your blurb just above, that paragraph you wrote how your are backpacking etc, on the group page - if you scroll down there is an area on the page where you can post comments, and it goes out to everyone in the group via their emails :)
that would be a good way to get some responses re honey etc.
also, if you haven't heard of it already, wild earth organics is in merivale, a small organic supermarket (which has lots of cool stuff there!) open until 5 during the weekdays, and until 3 on sats.
