I live half an hour from the nearest store, so having fresh vegetables grown from my own garden is important to me. I like to share my produce with others. I garden in raised beds in a wet and windy area, so am slightly limited in variety.

    Sarah, all this time, I thought Dannevirke was in the South Island! I really don't know my NZ geography apparently! Oops. :)

    Have you tried starting seedlings inside? We've got an open shelf in front of a window that we've wrapped in plastic that seems to be working quite well - lots of seeds are starting to germinate, so we'll have lots of goodies strong and ready to plant out at the earliest possible time... after the frosts are well gone!

    I'm really interested in developing my own orchard too. Will probably go for dwarf varieties that I can grow in large pots/wine barrels though. We don't own our own house yet and I want to get started right away! I'm going to buy a tahitian lime and maybe a granny smith apple as soon as funds and time allow.

    Good luck with the persimmon! If it was expensive, you better get some good fruit out of it!

    We're going to have another Hawkes Bay Oooooby meetup in August some time, so if you happen to be out this way it would be nice to get together with you for yummy kai and swapping seeds/seedlings and other goodies!

    Lime Green Salad tomatoes are very nice too.
    We are fortunate with our climate.
