I took out the varroa strips from my hive today, and had a check. The frames in the bottom box were very mouldy, so I have removed them, leaving the box empty. Built a stand to elevate the hive…Continue

Comment by Pbee on March 6, 2012 at 6:41pm Hi Marjolijn,
can't help with top bars, but after reading through your posts...do you have a viable queen in your TBH? And have you treated for Varroa? And if you have, with what, please? If you have treated with any form of Thymol, your queen will not be laying for at least a fortnight.
Comment by marjolijn vos on March 6, 2012 at 5:46pm Just trying another call for help from any top bar beekeepers in Auckland
to see if you could sell me a couple of frames of brood... Looking grim for
the remaining girls....
Comment by Pbee on February 20, 2012 at 7:42am Hi Daniel,
Let me share my train of thoughts...
What I have posted here I would call 'consumer feedback'.
When you, as a customer or consumer, go and read feedback of customers or consumers of products or services, you can learn of other's experiences of the offered products or services.
That is how customers or consumers learn of other customers or consumers experiences. A good product- or service provider will look upon the feedback to improve product or service.
Where would we be at if every product or service provider would take disciplinary action against every consumer of product or service, who openly share their experiences of the offered products or services consumed?
There are brilliant people with 100's of combined years of beekeeping experience on The NZ Beekeepers forum. I am excited every time I get onto the Forum to read the shared experiences and advice of those brilliant people. As I am thrilled when I can share my experiences and you Daniel (Nubee) - as an example - can take this to your hives and get rid of the ants. I am really happy that my shared experience helped you to get rid of your ants.
It is all about sharing - and I am willing and able to share all my experiences! The good ones as well as the not so good ones.
That is how we learn!
I wish you lots of happy experiences with your bees and both of these Forums.
Don't Worry, Bee Happy!
Comment by Pbee on February 19, 2012 at 11:28pm Hi Dansar,
I thank you for your comment - appreciated! And I thank you for your success with dem Ants.
For my last post here - I have only shared my experiences. There is no attack or venting feelings. I think it is a great Forum - really! But posts that I have made hours ago are still, whilst the conversation has moved on, in the holding bin. I don't see that as an appreciation for my comments.
And for Finman, I am in direct communication and I have and am receiving valuable information, in Finman's broken English, 10 years of documented trials from 6 European countries. After I have confirmed and tested Finmans 'broken English' conclusions - I will post them here!
Don't Worry - Bee Happy!!!
Comment by Daniel Martin on February 19, 2012 at 11:04pm Pbee - this is the wrong way to vent your feelings -Finman (who I think you refer to) well and truly missed the point of the discussions and just couldnt get his point across in english nor understood 'kiwi' which frustrated everyone. The site is well managed and doesnt deserve a public slagging as it just received. Your input is appreciated when passing on valuble info for a new bee keeper such as myself -re Lavendar oil to deter ants was a winner :). Cheers Dansar
Comment by Pbee on February 19, 2012 at 8:52pm If you join the NZ Beekeepers forum, you better restrain yourself from telling everybody how you feel or Grant will 'gag' you! It is a great Forum considering the members, but Grant will not accept if you type with enthusiasm or if you have a different opinion. A world class scientist from Finland with lots of available information on treating Varroa has been devastated about the attitude on the NZ Beekeepers Forum.
Comment by Grant on February 9, 2012 at 10:55pm The NZ Beekeepers forum is on the edge of some significant milestones
189 members, 5003 posts and 599 topics. I think its pretty impressive considering the site has only been going for 6 months. We welcome New Zealand beekeepers from all walks of life, whether that is TBH, urban, hobbiest or commercial. Check out the Warre hives being posted too, they look great :)
Won't know for 2 to 3 weeks if my Virgen queen has mate sucessfully. If not then I will have to buy a mated queen.
Comment by marjolijn vos on February 7, 2012 at 1:07pm Hows your situation going Nicholas?
Comment by marjolijn vos on February 7, 2012 at 1:06pm Thanks anyway Nicholas. Rosemary from the Auckland bee club came
over yesterday and we spent the avo doing a drone cull. No eggs, larva
or capped brood. Probably no queen. Drones are trying to get back in
but can't fit thru the entrance anymore cos we jacked up a queen
excluder... Going thru the frames again this avo to check out drone situ.
Some are small enough to fit thru cos Rosemary said the eggs were laid
into worker cells. I am learning so much. Rosemary is awesome.
