Love to see some of you. Cheers Carolann Murray

  • Hey folks, just letting you know about our latest (and most up to date) social networking - Join up with us at https://www.facebook.com/groups/kaiotearo/?fref=ts on facebook. In the facebook group, there will be regular updates, reminders, casual gardeners looking for a buddy, info on our events, potlucks, bees etc. (We will continue with our email list as usual if you prefer, email arogardener@gmail.com to subscribe to the emails). Cheerio!

  • The latest issue of Aro Valley's community newspaper Valley Voice (Feb 2013) has a good article about Kai O Te Aro (KOTA) - an interview with Charles with the headline 'Could Aro Valley Grow Its Own Vegetables?'. Over the past few years Charles and Lillian have shared the task of writing a little report about KOTA in that monthly newspaper. The group's contact email is arogardener@gmail.com. Do get in touch if you would like to be on our mailing list for reminders about group gardening dates and potluck dinners.

  • Thanks Lillian. I took your advice and picked the cinderella broad beans which were fast approaching the 'turn into a pumpkin' moment. Today's promised showers have not arrived so I'll do some more watering this evening at Secret Garden.

  • Hey folks, although things look overgrown, there is a fair bit to harvest. In particular, BROAD BEANS at the steps (and some kale too). Please take them! As you enter the garden, they're in the far corner on the right. Hope you've all had a great summer holiday and looking forward to seeing people gardening at our regular time 2pm Sunday 20th Jan.

  • Hello Welly friends,

Greetings from Aro North. Just wanted to let you know, we nominated our colleague Sister Rosemary for NZ Gardener of the Year, and she is now a finalist.

The top award will be decided by public vote. For more details, see the page on our garden ooooby site: Vote for Rosie!

    Exciting times! All the best,

    Wayne

PS Congratulations Charles for the coordinator role. Glad that funding came through. I hope you find all sorts of wonderful ways to grow the team!

You can fin more info at   www.wellington.govt.nz/rd/next10yrs so what would you like to see Wellington become over the next 10years?

Crop Guardians - sharing updates and queries

Hey folks,   This discussion is for anything related to crop guardians: someone who takes on the role of caretaking a particular vegetable or plant, learning about it, keeping an eye on when it should be planted, what it grows well with etc.   Go for gold and share info on your crop or ask for advice, or name a crop you'd like to be guardian or co-guardian of if you've got a favourite.    Cheers, Lillian.
