We have some big plans in line for this coming year: growing out older seeds, teaching a few classes, a new website, and much more. But, as mentioned , we need your help.

We look forward to seeing as many people as possible at the AGM and Seed Swap this weekend. Find it on Facebook.

So we know it is short notice but  you can write it in your diaries immediately and because it is so current you will not need any reminders.
We are ready to go so bring along seeds to swap and any other things to add to the table such as tubers, bulbs, interesting cuttings ...maybe you want to bring a plate of scones or some gardening magazines to pass on.
Remember if you have nothing to swap just a Gold Coin donation at the door.

And of course bring along your stories and expertise to share with other members.

Hi, just wondering if anyone knows where or if I can get plants or seeds for hardy passionfruit ( eg. Incarnata or Caerulea). Does anyone have experience with growing passionfruit in the colder parts of NZ?

Spring Seed Swap
September 27th (a Saturday)
From 1pm -3pm

Cnr of Hassels Lane and York St, Opawa
Bring along seeds to swap as well as tubers, bulbs, cuttings etc.
The deal is if you bring material to add to the table entry is free otherwise we ask you make a gold coin donation.
Of course feel free to make any donations as all gratefully received.

This is a great opportunity to come along and exchange ideas as well as seeds and to meet other like minded folk in our community

Also a very good time to pay your subs as they are due as at the end of August unless of course you have already done so.

We have timed our AGM for an hour before the seed swap begins so please feel free to attend this prior to the swapping.
AGM begins at high noon! 12pm.

I will be sending out an agenda in the next week or so but I need to let you all know this information in advance so here it is.

In previous years we have used the Spring Seed Swap as a way to distribute orders to you and save on postage so I am proposing we try this again. Of course I will be calling on volunteers to help pack seed if I get inundated with orders and if we get snowed under we may not get all orders filled on time but lets give it a go.You would need to have your orders in to me by the 20th September to give me time to process and get helpers to pack the seed up and have it ready for distribution on the day.
I have attached a copy of the seedlist also as although I did email it to you all earlier in the year many folk say they have lost the email so here it is again. At the Seed Swap there will be hard copies of the Seed List available at the cost of $2 as we seriously need to recoup the cost of printing them and as you know we are financially stretched at present.(An order form is also attached. When you fill it in make sure you write the # number of the seed line and what it is i.e #506 Waimana -tomato...... it makes my job way easier)

Apologies for not having the newsletter ready to send to you all at this time but I believe Martin is still working on it at this stage.

Ok so get your diaries out and mark in September 27th, 2014
1-3pm for the Swap

or come an hour early and join the AGM.

Hello Everyone
Just a reminder about the seed swap coming up this wintery weekend.
Saturday May 3rd at the usual venue at 7 Oaks School in Opawa.
\From 1pm till 3pm.
Bring along seeds or cuttings or seedlings and tubers to swap.
If you have nothing to swap give a gold coin donation and help yourself to what you want and need.
Also an excellent chance to renew your membership so we can continue our work at the Seed Exchange.
The classroom we will be using may be different from the usual one so follow the crowd and signage should be in place.
Hope to see many of you there.

Cheers Ariel Linklater

latest email from Ariel

Greetings Everybody
I hope some of you made it to the Tomato Fest this year although by all accounts we had fewer entries this time around.
We are still harvesting tomatoes from the tunnel houses at this point though the time of Green Tomato Chutney is nearly upon us.
So how are the harvests going?
Time to alert you all to the upcoming Autumn Seed Swap.
This will take place on Saturday 3rd May at 7 Oaks school in Hasals Lane in Opawa.
We are returning to the Saturday as last time we did not have such a wonderful turn out on a Sunday.
It is a bit later this year but this gives those of you returning seed to the seed bank plenty of time to 'clean' and dry the seed. ( Oh yes it makes our job very much easier if you clean the seed first- so please make the effort it is appreciated)
Seed Swap is between 1-3pm on 3rd May
and just bring along anything you would like to swap-plants,cuttings,tubers and of course SEEDS.
If you bring stuff to swap entry is free , otherwise it is a gold coin entry on the door.
So get out your diaries and enter this date NOW.

Cheers Ariel Linklater(co-ordinator)
