Derek and Julie Craig - Saturday Oct 17th at 10am

Derek and Julie have offered for Oooobys to join a Soil & Health visit to their Mt Albert Garden. Location: 22 Phyllis Street Mt Albert. When: Saturday Oct 17th at 10am Click on link below for google map directions: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=22+Phyllis+Street+Mt+Albert.&oe=UTF-8&ie=UTF8&ei=agvMSobvBYbUtgPVxvVH&hq=&hnear=22+Phyllis+St,+Auckland,+1025,+New+Zealand&ll=-36.886863,174.708238&spn=0.018604,0.02605&t=h&z=15 Introductory info: We are living in a rented property in Mt Albert. We are not organic - but sprayfree. We grow as much food and flowers as the property has space. We have 7 chickens, who live above our compost heap and we utilise our friends and family to feed our chickens with their food scraps (as we don't generate enough). We brew, preserve, jelly, dehydrate and syrup our excess for bartering. We sell our excess eggs and dried hops also, which helps us purchase any meat or cereal that we need. We have planted many trees on the property with the intention of leaving them here when we move on. Please bring food for Shared Lunch and Koha. Please leave a comment if you are wanting to attend so we have an idea on Numbers Angie

  • Well I'm a bit sad that I missed this event. Due to my sporting requirements I had made plans to pick up my mum from the train station at 10:50 and then call in. As it turned out she missed that train, and after waiting for the next one to arrive late without her, decided that it was getting a bit too late. It would have been nice to make contact with everyone. Perhaps we could call in as a social visit some time Derek and Julie, or have the Waitakere group make a garden visit ?

Otherwise... I'll just have to catch the next event ;)

  • Wow... thats harsh. I know how much effort is required to develop gardens from nothing, and I can't imagine doing it knowing that it will all get wiped at some point. We are interested in any activities that focus on home food production, esp where it involves permaculture or low effort approaches.

I am still not quite sure how to arrange this yet, as my brother and I have sport on Sat morning. Would it be at all suitable if we turned up quite late, say 11 - 11:30 ? If this is impractical then thats ok.

Also, is anyone here coming from west auckland / Glen Eden who could give my mother a ride ?
    Cheers.
  • Should be fine!
We are a bit surprised at the level of interest. The house is a transit NZ property slated for demolition with the highway 20 extention. So we are trying our best with the knowledge that in the future we will have to go.

    Hi Derek & Julie
Two of my family and myself are interested in exploring your sustainable lifestyle, however we may only be able to make it after 10:30. Is this ok ?

Jenny Yes I am very excited myself to be going and see how they are using such a small space to live on!

Will be great to see you Jo!
