vertical

I have a friend who follows several of the sustainable/permaculture theories that have to do with gardening. She had a herb spiral that was watered by her rain chain! I saw the keyhole gardens and that seems to be something that might be combined somehow.  I am going to do some further reading on the keyhole gardens and see what I can come up with for the yard. I like the idea of having something to do with the grey water that I sneak into the yard right now.
Does anyone have any idea of doing something with circles or spirals and vertical?

  • Margaret, I'm going to post this photo for you here also. Inspiration is so wonderful to work from!

    • I love strawberry towers... have you seen one that has a sprinkler head on top yet. So much fun to watch the birds play in it.
I just moved into this house in July so my brain is dancing around with what I can do, and how to make it somehow educational for the public.
I used to make wall pockets out of tin cans. Just by cutting the bottom out (recycle that if you are not using it in another project) and flatten the bottom with a hanger. Punch a couple of holes in the top and run a wire bail to hang it. If I use a coffee filter to line the can and keep the growing medium in.... I see a privacy fence that has everything from herbs to pen and paper in them.
    • Good morning Margaret, I love the strawberry tower with the sprinkler on top idea. Cute! Congratulations on moving into your new home! It's fun to start a new yard and garden, especially with your previous knowledge. I've been working on my new yard for 2 years now. It's cleaning out all the junk that the previous owners put down that is the real cruncher! Being able to slow down and think things out well has been a saving grace. It will be a joy in the future and easy to access as we age more.
