Growing gourds.

I want to try and grow some gourds for sculptures I have been playing around with. I have saved the seeds from the gourd in my photo (which was given to me by a friend) as it is such a lovely shape and size. Has anyone grown gouds before and do they have any tips for me, I'm in NSW Australia so planting time may be different? I have bought a large black pot to grow them/it in and plan to put it next to the garden shed with the hope it might grow over the shed.
