  • Hi Tracey,
There is a great planting guide on the eden seeds website www.edenseeds.com.au/content/planting.asp
It is much better to grow peas from seeds rather than from seedlings. I direct sow them in the garden. It is super easy. I buy my seeds from a company called Green Harvest. Their website is www.greenharvest.com.au It is an awesome website full of useful information so worth checking out even if you are not planning on buying seed. I also like their website because the give a money order option and do not force you to use a credit card to make online purchases.
  • I'm about 30 minutes south of the Qld border. A lot of the stuff that grows well here over winter should work in Newcastle. If you are a fan of broccoli and peas they are two winter crops that should grow well. It might be too late to plant broccoli from seed right now, you may need to start with established seedlings or risk your broccoli bolting to seed. I'm not sure how quickly it warms up in Newcastle in the Spring. Peas are easy to grow from seed and love the NSW winter conditions. Once you have eaten fresh peas from the vine it is very hard to go back to the stale old store bought ones. Most of mine don't even make it to the cooking pot. They are so tasty and sweet that first minute after they are harvested I often eat them raw straight out of the pods. Some of the other plants that grow well in the winter in NSW include potatoes, garlic, coriander, cauliflower, silver beet, lettuce, onions and carrots. There a lot more, that is just what I like to grow over the winter that I think would grow well in Newcastle's climate. Happy gardening!
  • Hi Tracy,
You must be down south somewhere, here on the north coast winter is a fantastic time to plant all sorts of yummy vegies. I prefer the winter to the summer for vegetable gardening.
  • Hi Tracy,
