Harvesting Chili

Hi I would appreciate any help about when to harvest my chili's as its the first time I have grown them. Currently I have two plants which have a couple of green ones that are a decent size and one that is very large. I am wondering do I need to wait till they turn red? Or do I remove them when green? I just dont want anything to die on me before I have enjoyed the fruit of my labour!! I have been waiting a LONG time for these plants to show fruit! ;-) Many thanks for any advice you can share.

  • Thanks Gayleen. I might keep a couple of green ones, and leave the rest for red. Appreciate your advice.
  • Thanks for that Danny! I shall leave it and cross my fingers.
  • you should leave your chillis until they turn red, unless the recipe you are following specifies use green chillis. some Indian recipes include green chillis. hope that helps and enjoy your chillis
  • Hi Heidi, someone else with more experience may have better advice but from someone who is also growing their first chilli plant .... the first 2 or 3 chillis on mine went from green to an orange/yellow colour, dried up and dropped off. Since then I have had 3 more which went from green to a beautiful bright red. These are good plump chillis so perhaps wait a little while?
