I heard a story that if you cut off most of the top of carrots you can keep them in the ground for a few months without them going woody in the centre. Does any have nay experiemnce of this?

Im my experience, i grow carrots like mad so they are a good size for when the frosts come and nothing grows...they will last absolutely fine in the winter ground until the spring growth starts..then they start sprouting and going up to seed, thats when they go woody. Hope that snippet helps?
thanks for your reply. You know, thinking on it, it was a winter batch going into spring that went woody, not a summer batch into winter! Thanks for getting my facts straight.
