sweet corn plants rotting in the stems

I am gutted. My honey and pearl corn is flopping and at close inspection I've found the stem is discolouring and weakening then flopping over. It's the main stem which produces the tassle. The plants look amazing, really tall, tassles forming, lovely thick stems, so I can't believe this is happening. Root systems are extensive and strong, it was really hard to pull out an affected plant... What's going on? Sob, sob.

  • Hi Moss, I don't know much about this but maybe the mulch was too close and wet? so unfair but you might still have time to grow another lot...or buy some seedlings . There are some organic seedlings for sale at the grey lynn market this morning...Den
