The Glory of the Garden

As those of you that were at the Ooooby-versity meeting last night will know, Alex and I are members at Almondbury Methodist Church and over the Harvest weekend (3/4 Oct) the church are hosting a community event to celebrate The Glory of the Garden. Community groups are invited to create a 5' x 4' themed garden and we were wondering if the Huddersfield Ooooby group would like to create a veggie themed garden? An appropriate wooden container will be provided and then we would need to provide the materials, dressing, veg, etc. The garden would have a label telling people a bit about our group. As far as I know the idea would be to create the garden at some point during the week and then the church is open for people to come and look at the gardens during the weekend and then the Harvest Festival service on the Sunday morning will be set amongst them. What do people think? If we're interested I will find out more details about the practicalities of setting up the garden etc. We thought it would be a good opportunity to get our name out there so a few more people know about Ooooby and as we are looking to create a community garden on Charlie's land we felt we fitted perfectly into the whole theme of communities and gardens. I have provisionally booked us a garden so we need to make a decision fairly soon on whether or not we want to take part. Maybe we could discuss it further at next week's meeting?

  • This is a great idea and a wonderful opportunity to get our collective hands in the soil... I would love to be able to participate, alas, I will be many miles away.
