Worms, chooks and dogs

Are the natural wormers effective has any one had success? How long is the witholding period for the chemical ones? and also need to worm the disgusting dog who eats the chook s*** if he gets a chance and suggestions for worming chooks and keeping the dog from being a dog!

  • We use Aviverm liquid once a year for the birds - usually in the middle of winter, when they are not laying much, as it has a 6 day withholding period for eggs. You can get it from pet shops or the vet. 1ml = 9kg weight so you have to calculate the approx weight of all the flock, put it in their water for 24 hours and then change the water. If they are suffering from worms they do show an improvement in condition within a few days of it being done. Other times garlic in the water helps. The birds eat the dog poo and the dog eats the bird poo - sneakily too as she knows I dont like her doing it so it must be a treat - arrgh - disgusting creatures. So she gets wormed regularly anyway using supermarket worming tablets. They all look healthy irrespective of my reaction to thier snacking ;-)
