Using wood from wooden pellets

Hi Everyone. Ive started my urban garden. I had intended to use wooden planks from wooden pellets as the walls of my two raised bed vegetable gardens. Are there any major concerns I should be aware of using this kind of treated wooden?

  • You might wish to read this article/study on treated timbers for gardens before you go ahead. It is very informative. Personally, I prefer as organic as possible, but it IS personal preference. We are confronted by chemicals daily, in one form or another and from many sources. We cannot control them all. For me, being able to control what may leach into my garden and food is important to me, as I already have health issues that I do not wish to exacerbate. Generally speaking, gardeners have been using treated timbers and plastic in their gardens for many years, and I doubt all of them are dead (the gardeners and their families, I mean). So it comes down to preference, finances and availability.
  • We have done the same... I intend to just line it with thick black plastic sheeting... to also stop rot in the wood as well as keep my soil safe from any yucky toxins leaking from the wood.
