my gooseberries are nearly ripe and any recipe ideas would be great.
I have one for gooseberry fool, out of a very old recipe book hence the measurements.
Ingredients green gooseberries; to every pint of pulp add one pint of milk (or half a pint of cream and half a pint of milk); sugar to taste.
Method cut the tops and tails off the gooseberries and put them in a jar with 2 tblsp of water. set this jar in a pot of water and bring to boil; boil until fruit is soft, add sugar to taste; beat to a pulp; work through colander and gradually stir in appropriate proportion of milk; add more sugar to taste if needed.

This is a little late, next year perhaps unless you're lucky enough to still have some berries tucked away in your freezer.
Here's my vote for the yummiest ever gooseberry meringue tart from Jane Grigson's Fruit Book. It's not only a delight to read but a constant reference in my kitchen
You're welcome - even though the book's available electronically, it's a wonderful book to own, I'm constantly dipping into it and as you've discovered, has both savoury and sweet recipes & just about every fruit you're likely to encounter.
