In early August I saw a couple of silkies across the road from us here in South Titirangi Road. I never found out where they lived but they remained in this area.
Now only the rooster remains and he's wandered over here! I have just caught and fed him. He's pretty straggly and hungry. What do I do with him?

We walked around the neighbours and found the owner, finally. She doesn't want the rooster anymore.
So it's bird rescue ... or the table!
Chooks are good for keeping the invertebrate pest population down, but roosters aren't always welcome by the neighbours! Let us know how you get on.
She has had it on TradeMe with no luck. Doesn't want to kill it, so I offered (!). Then we found a man who will buy live hens for the table, but unfortunately the owner's not keen on this. Meanwhile her neighbours are losing sleep.
Yes, it always is a bit of a problem, knowing what to do with excess roosters. We have usually found some people willing to take them off us for the table, but I think that killing them, at night and on the property, is the kindest way of getting rid of them. Have you found a home for your hen yet Brian?
