A 1-bedroom unit for rent with garden space to grow and backyard poultry potential, close to Petone
Hi This opportunity will appeal to someone who would like to start growing their own food while renting as I am offering up garden space to produce fruit and vege with the rental (and even a chookhouse if you are keen on staying long-term). Happy to share garden tools and knowledge, and certainly open to someone making over unused areas of my section if fit for purpose. Hey Rachel, is it a community project? If so, I know a free mulch place (but might not be able to come on the day/time you're after). Cheers, Lillian.
Wellington suppliers: mulch, compost etc
Hi folks. I'll be visiting Wellington next week to tackle a big gardening project and wonder if a knowledgable local could tell me a good source for buying compost, mulch, punga logs etc. Less than trailer-load quantities because of access/parking problems. I'm sure there's a better option than Mitre 10. Thank you heaps in anticipation
(#!*!?#% we just had 30 seconds of hail here in Whanganui! And me with the courtyard packed with hundreds of plants waiting for transport to Welly. In the middle of November. Unbelievable!)
Somebody was wondering if KUMERAHOU grows in the Wellington area...The answer is that it does NOT grow naturally there...I have seen it growing only as far south as my hometown of Te Aroha in the Eastern Waikato. But with saying that...I know of 3 growing in Pukekura park, New Plymouth that I show to my students when I facilitate Indigenous plant medicine seminars...BUT even here it doesn't like it very much because of the colder climate.
If it was to grow in Wellington it would have to be grown sheltered against the southerly and remember - Kumerahou only grows in POOR soil...it hates potting mix or 'good' soil!
Does anybody know the location of a kumarahou tree (aka Gumdigger's Soap in Wellington or up the coast?

Hi Lillian, great to see you and Charles this weekend in your utopia. I think it was Lindsay? who said she had a tamarillo plant for me. How can I get hold of her as we forgot to swop details. I look forward to more wintery gardening with you.
