BOOKS on traditional foods

Listing books that have been helpful or you use:

Nourishing traditions by Sally Fallon - this is a good one to start with, but can be daunting if you try to change everything all at once.

Change of Heart  - Kay Baxter and Bob Corker - good for a New Zealand perspective.

  • Reading an amazing book at the moment regarding traditional foods and how what we eat determines our genetic expressions.....truly inspiring

"Deep Nutrition" by Catherine Shanahan MD and Luke Shanahan.

Amazing infomation which builds confidence is what alot of us have always "felt" was right. VEry very good stuff.

    • Another great book is Frugavore by Arabella Forge - she's a WAP leader & nutritionist based in Melbourne. http://www.frugavore.com/

  • Eat fat lose fat by Mary Enig is good (and probably a good one to start on first if you find Nourishing Traditions a bit overwhelming) and also a book about fermented foods by Sandor Katz called Wild Fermentation is great. There is a recipe for a no knead rye sourdough bread. And it really works, you don't have to knead it at all and you get the same great rise. I must say I was amazed (and delighted!).

Another good book about preserving food is Preserving Food without Freezing or Canning. Not all of them are WAPF friendly but I have found it very useful.

  • Ferment and Human Nutrition by Bill Mollison

WIld Fermentation by Sandon Ellix Katz

  • Sugar Blues by William Dufty was a real eye opener!
