Hi Andrew! You've been quiet recently - what's growing in your garden? I've finally got rid of all the autumn leaves, and we're passing the shortest day, so I'm looking forward to spring now! We've got some of the astringent persimmons (the squishy ones that need cooking with sugar) on the tree in the front yard if you want to pick some on your way past. Also loads of spinach and some pak choi (a pit hen-pecked) if you want some. Just help yourself.
Did you have any feijoas? Chris's mum dropped off a bagful today and there's no way we'll get through them all. Let me know if you want some and I'll see you at school with them.
Recipe for feijoa loaf (makes 2 small loaves):
Boil 2 cups of cubed feijoas, 1 cup sultanas, 2 cups brown sugar and 100g butter in 2 cups boiling water, for about 5 minutes. Leave to cool a bit. Add 4 cups flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 2 teaspoons baking soda and 2 beaten eggs, and mix well. Pour into 2 greased loaf tins, bake 45-50mins at 180degC.
Hi Andrew, welcome to Ooooby! Join the Cambridge group then there'll be the two of us! There are about 10 in the Hamilton group. Thanks for the pumpkins and leeks. Come over any time to raid the spinach.
