Tell us about your garden and what you're growing

I've just returned from two years living in Mexico City and Santiago, Chile. In Mexico City I was involved in some awesome projects working on establishing gardens in urban spaces, and teaching inner city kids about growing. I'm interested in growing in small spaces, water catchment systems and teaching kids about gardening. Now that I've returned home I'm interested in continuing to learn, and I would love to get involved in some community projects here in Auckland.

  • Hi

I already open a working bee group

Let me know what do you think

We should have one or more group that goes around house by house, garden by garden.

    See you.

  • Charlotte -- I've recently started brewing kombucha, just put away my third batch today. I was blessed with a helpful neighbour who passed on a scoby, some detailed instructions and some useful tips. I'd be delighted to share what I'm learning. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Maybe we can figure out a way I can post you some scoby! Cheers, Rachel Kombucha-instructions.pdf
  • Hey Charlotte, yes it's the Adam from last night. Thanks. You can see it's more about function than aesthetics... ;) I don't come across many bathtubs on the street, and even if i did, it would be a challenge getting them home on the bike. So just go for light and portable whatevers. Though those metal bins i found outside a metalworkers do look good hanging off the fence... :) I think you could score some interesting containers with the inorganic collection coming up!
  • Hi Charlotte,
Thanks for your message.   Are you back and working or still settling in?  I'm still sorting myself out so at the moment don't have much going on yet but likewise I would love to help out if you know of any interesting projects. I'm looking for work as a business analyst but at the same time studying a paper in urban agriculture and wondering if i can make a living outside of the office!  The projects you worked on in Mexico city sound great - mine were based around rural agriculture but really interesting.  Anyway, would like to talk to some likeminded people sometime more than I do so if you are keen to meet up for a chat sometime let me know...although there's probably also a group for that sort of thing on here!

    Cheers

    Naomi

  • Ok, now i see you are! yes, help is definitely needed!

We are currently formulating a plan. Most of the schools are based out west, some more centrally than others. What areas could you work in and are you a primary/secondary teacher? The schools are all at varying levels of gardening practice.
