  • Hi Gail - I'm interested in the coffee grounds idea - have been thinking of asking my local cafe but not done it. I'm in Sandringham - and will also be interested if you answer Daniel's question re the value of coffee to the soil - humus? (Actually I've looked and there's plenty on the web - it seems they are a reasonable source of nitrogen, and mildly snail deterrent. Worms like them, and they are mildly acidic so good for neutralising alkaline soils.

    Cheers
    Helga
  • Also, is Kumara easy to grow like potatoes?
    Thanks, Rebecca
  • Hi Gail,
I'm new to this wonderful world of growing vege/fruit. What do you use coffe grinds for?
    Cheers, Rebecca
  • Would love some coffee grinds what are the benefits to the soil of adding them? will try sending a text tommorow as am off for a few days and can pick up any time..
  • Hi there,

we are in Sandringham. We currently have guavas and feijoas as well as feijoa jam, fig jam with cinnamon, guava jelly and lemon marshmallow with white chocolate coating. Let us know if you would like to swap for some fresh produce.

    Thanks,

    Laura.

  • Kia Ora Gail,
Ive just joined up and im looking for local connections. I live on Dominion Rd Mt Eden, it;s the old half way house which is a huge space for me to expand and expore all my gardening ideas. Ive just installed 2 old bathtub worm farms, some raised vege beds and are well on the way to getting some chooks, all based on permiculture design principles ect. Im keen to swap seeds, plants and ideas.
    cheers
  • Hi Gail.
Just caught sight of your comment re coffee grindings, never heard of this before, sounds a great idea! Do they work really well?
I live on the North Shore, but maybe I could ask the cafes over here.
Do they happily hand them over?
    Thanks Annabelle
  • Hi gail i would love to have some coffee grindings you have collected i work at market road near green lane i could pick some up after work for you if that suits you i finish work at 3.30 so any time after then would be great how much coffee grinds are collected from the cafes?, and what nutrients are the grindings high in and what effect do they have on the garden when you apply them?
    Thanks Daniel
  • hi Gail,
yes i'd love to get some coffee grinds. i remember visiting someone over 20 years ago and she had used them on her garden with amazing results. I have often wondered about trying them ever since. Do you want some coriander seeds?
