Thanks for the link, ideas are starting to come together as to what kind of hive and where to put it or them. I like the idea of the comment that if you attend the course then you get a starter colony of bees. We used to put up catch boxes and a feral colony would just move in after a while but there are no feral colonies left here now.
Thank you very much for hosting us at the last meeting, I really appreciated the afternoon and the tea and eats. It was good to go around your garden see what you are doing and glean some ideas.
Thanks for the link, will look into it. I actually had a bee-keeper over to look at our property with a view to keeping a hive but she said nowhere would actually be suitable :( Anyway, sorry to have missed the last meeting at your place. As it turned out I had to work Sat instead of the sunday! My garden is currently dry and lacking in nutrients and looking drab! Need to get some time and get out into it...
Have finally organised guided tour at Unitec Food Forest. Will be on Sunday November 1st at 11.15am, for about 1 - 1 1/2 hours followed by BYO picnic lunch. Guided by the very knowledgeable Brendon Hoare. Will cost $10 per adult, maximum 20 people, will do on a first paid, first served basis. Children welcome. Email me on islandgardening@gmail.com if you're keen.

Typically I go looking for cheese and come home with an eye on yoghurt and desert. How are you doing on the local food front? Did you manage the Grey Lynn Farmers Market?
