HI guys anyone here got a rabbit problem? Have a keen hubby with the appropriate gun and license that wants to remove some pests. Stop the cute little fluffies destroying your pasture and making holes for your pony or cattle to step in and break a leg. Our kids pet bunnies are off the menu.

Maybe you’d like to grow your own food in the back yard. Or maybe you’ve been wondering about how your transport choices could be cheaper. Or you might be thinking about
making your home more energy efficient but don’t know where to start. Then the Sustainable Living course is just for you.

 

Learn in depth about the sustainability of your lifestyle and how you can make positive changes for your health, your pocket and our environment. You will be tutored in a small group while sharing experiences and meeting like minded people. Topics covered include energy efficiency, eco-building design and insulation,  water use, organic vegetable gardening,  waste reduction, composting, shopping with the planet in mind, travel options and carbon impacts,  and community resilience.

 

When: Starts Wednesday 23 February for 8 consecutive weeks, 7-9pm

Where: Rotary Lounge, Upper Hutt Library, 844 Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt

Your tutor will be Natalie Hormann who has vast experience in both consultancy and teaching this programme.
It costs only $64 for the 8-week course.

Seminar: Roofwater harvesting in urban environments

Come along to hear Stan Abbott, Director of the Roof Water Research Centre at Massey University, speak on:

• the benefits of installing rainwater tanks
• types of tanks and pumps available and the costs involved
• regulations for installing a tank
• design features and preventative management procedures

Further advice on water conservation will also be available on the evening.

Interactive workshop

A “how to” workshop on building a rainwater collection system is being held during 2 x 2 hour sessions at the Pinehaven Community Hall. Hi Lynette - it is on every Saturday. Usually between 8-11.30am. I usually pack up after then and are gone by 12 but the fruit and veg man, Harry Kent, who runs the market is there for longer. there are 4 stall holders there every week and 4-5 others that come and go as it suits them. I'm there this week and the following week will be at the Pinehaven school Gala instead then back to Trentham Market the following week.

I have a couple of cross bred pullets looking for a good home. They are white leghorn crossed possibly with Orpington or brown shaver. Good layers and if allowed to sit would be good mothers. In their first laying year, medium sized tinted egg. $20 each.

Elder in flower if you know where to find it - made our first batch of cordial last week and have another on the go. Great recipe to be had on this site. I will have some for sale at the Trentham market this Saturday if you want to try. - Kristen
