I am an organic gardener and only use benign pest control (I feed snails to the hens) except sometimes I use a few snail pellets with newly planted seedlings. However something is making holes in my mature silverbeet during the night and I wish I knew what it is. There are no green beetles around yet and no silvery trails left by snails or slugs. Just a few large bites, and lots of tiny 'pinprick' sort of holes. I have sprayed with water from boiled lettuce leaves but so far no good. Any suggestions?

I had a similar thing going on with my cabbages, except the holes gradually got bigger. Today I pulled off 5-6 caterpillars from the four plants. Go over them with a fine tooth comb- caterpillars would start off tiny and and be hard to find.
I have got the same thing going on with my baby lemon tree (in a pot)........holes and chunks missing out of the leaves, but no slimy trails, no visible signs of anything resemling bugs on the plant at all, and someone suggested to me it could be earwigs coming out to play at night.
