Large avocado tree

We moved into a property that avocado tree that is about 6 mtrs tall, it is fruiting but way up high. Is there a way to picking safely rather than having to try & climb up?

  • I have a long telescopic pole with a basket on it that I use to pick all sorts of fruit up high. It has blunt 'teeth' around the edge of the basket that I position around the stalk of the fruit and then I pull. I dont know what it is called but I bought it years ago from one of those homeshopping catelogues. A garden centre might sell something like it maybe. There is a version of one here:

but mine is almost exactly like this one

  • Thanks for your replies. We were hoping to be able to pick rather than have them fall & get damaged. We only moved in 6 months ago & it looks like the tree has had some branches trimmed but probably quite awhile ago due to the size of it now. Would be good to get it to a more managable size, will see what we can do once it is finshed fruiting this season.
  • Not that I know of ... but I do believe they fall to the ground when ready to eat.
