What is the best way to seal wine barrels before filling them with soil? We want to plant small citrus trees and have heard that if you don't seal the barrels first the bottoms may rot and we won't be able to move them without the bottoms falling out. We don't want to use anything toxic. Is there a paint on sealant or should we just line them with plastic?

I have just bought some half wine barrels for the same reason and I was going to seal them with linseed oil, but I think you may have to mix it with turps, that is something I need to look into. I will returm when I have more info
